I am really in love with this song. Definitely reminded me of a Christmas carol with the cheery melody, fuller brass and woodwind sound, and the addition of the choir. I was especially happy that the clarinet got a lot of attention. I could go to sleep to this and float off into happiness. Almost makes me forget that I’m supposed to be a terribly bitter person. Har har.

The song is from Final Fantasy 8, if some of you have not played the game. I did not play it either so I vouche for it, but I’m sure it can’t be terrible. After attending Distant Worlds, I am now hellbent on actually playing all the games inbetween 7 and 10. I’ve played 7 and a watched my cousin play 9 but I’ve never actually played any of them all the way through. It’ll be a nice project to work on next semester I guess!

Christmas Spirit

This week, my roommates and I purchased a tree and decorated stockings in light of the approach of Christmas, and the fact that I wouldn’t have time later because I would be busy with exams. They don’t call it studying for nothing. Super excited for Christmas baking, Christmas partying, and CHRISTMAS BREAK that I have started counting down on Facebook and have been listening to Christmas music since the beginning of November. I thank the Axis Power Hetalia for introducing me to Sakamoto Ryuichi. This song is the most epic instrumental music I have ever heard. It even ranks almost on par with Joe Hisashi, because I’m bias. Although it sounds repetitive at first glance listen, but when you sit and listen, you can hear the subtle changes in melody. The melody clearly paints a picture of a light snowy night, and someone is waiting, or walking around admiring the colourful Christmas decorations.

The melody was used in Utada Hikaru’s song “FYI” in her new Album “This is the One”.

Vanilla Mood is a Japanese female jazz group. You can find a lot of their videos on Youtube. I really enjoy some of their jazzed up versions of Disney songs, and popular songs I know. Most of the song gives off a very light feeling, and is nice to listen to when under a heavy workload.
